Triple H Comments On The New Global Cruiserweight Series
February 16, 2016 (23:15) [ Indexed from Wrestling-Edge ]
Triple H spoke with Pwinsider.com about the new Global Cruiserweight Series that will be premiering on the WWE Network in July. Here are the highlights. On the show and finding new talent for it: I would say the vast majority [of talents on the series] will be non-contracted or long-term contracted WWE talents, explains Levesque. We havent finalized the selection process, watching tapes and seeing who we want to work with and all of that. Its going to be a discovery process. Look, I want to have the best in the world. I dont want to negate anyone from that process because they are under contract to us. At the same time, Im looking for the best in the world and the brightest around to give them a platform that theyve never had. Im certainly looking at the vast majority from being from the outside [of WWE.] When I say Global, I mean Global. We are recruiting from everywhere. UK, Japan, China, to find the best talent. That doesnt mean we are going to find someone everywhere, but we are really trying to turn things over and really find someone from every part of the globe to be part of this and show the world who they are and what they can do. On trying to make news stars from this program: This will be in-ring [series], said Levesque, But there will be a lot of.if you just take talent that you dont know anything about and its someone no one has heard of before, they can do anything they want in the ring, but its just not as exciting. You arent as emotionally invested into who they are as characters as performers, as people, as performers, as where they are trying to go in their careers. I want people to learn about these talents and learn about who these talents are. This is not just me saying Im giving you a platform and you have eight minutes in the ring and Go get em, kid. This is, Im going to tell the world who you are. Im going to tell them what you do. Im going to tell you bits and pieces about your journey so far in your career and Im going to give you an opportunity with someone else to really shine in the ring and show everyone who you are and what you can do and really allow you to learn about these guys in this tournament. On how he came up with the idea for the series: At the end of the day, I was just having this conversation with my wife. I kind of approach this as Im just a huge fan. I started out that way and I will be that way my whole life. I kind of do what I think Im going to dig and that Im going to like and thats the way I approach it. Theres this talent that I like and Id like to go and see what they can do. So, I push for going to see what I can do with that. I think its important for everything to always grow and become bigger. Ive looked for a long time at that population of talent in that under 205 lb. category, the Cruiserweight category and thought, Man, theres a lot of really talented performers and I dont mean guys that can just do flips. Really talented performers that have characters and can speak are really good. They are underutilized to me and they dont have the platform to show what they can do. I feel like thats a miss. Not intentionally a miss, but just something that weve left sitting on the table, and I dont want to leave stuff sitting there on the table. You can read the entire interview here. Solomon Crowe Talks About Why He Left WWE And Triple H
February 13, 2016 (16:30) [ Indexed from Wrestling-Edge ]
Sami Callihan, who went by the name Solomon Crowe in NXT, spoke with Sports Illustrated's Extra Mustard site recently. Here are the highlights. On why he asked for his release from WWE: Everyone's like, "You left NXT, and NXT is so hot," but I have no hard feelings against NXT. Hopefully, I'll be back there one day. But when I went in, a couple things happened"I got injured at one point, and I was just not being used. Now that I'm 28, I wanted to have the chance to leave and show them why they hired me in the first place. I'm still young enough to go back, so that's what I'm doing now. I'm one of the only guys ever to walk up to WWE and quit, but I didn't do it to be a badass. I needed to roll the dice, and it may pay off one day and it may not. But no matter where I am, whether it's WWE or someplace else, I'm still a professional wrestler. At the end of the day, that's all that matters to me. On how he gave his notice to the company and Triple H: I gave my notice in the office on a conference call. I left on no hard terms, and they knew I was miserable at the time. People said to me, "But you were making so much more money with WWE," but it's not always about the money"it's about quality of life. Triple H showed up at the Evolve show [the night before the Royal Rumble], and that was the first time I got to see him face-to-face and talk with him. He said, "Man, I know how good you are, and to quit the top company in the world takes balls. You left on good terms and did it professionally, so if a spot opens, it's yours." I did everything by the book, and I want to be back, but at the end of the day, I realize WWE isn't the only place that is professional wrestling. I can be a professional wrestler anywhere in the world. If my journey takes me back to WWE and WrestleMania someday, then that's freakin' awesome. But my career could take me to the Tokyo Dome or someplace else, and that's why I left when I did. I have the chance to go out and do what I want to do. You can read the entire interview here. Jim Ross On Triple H, NXT, Being The New Announcer For NJPW On AXS TV
February 11, 2016 (20:30) [ Indexed from Wrestling-Edge ]
WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross recently appeared on Ring Rust Radio to talk about NXT and his new job at AXS TV. Here are the highlights. On Triple H creating NXT and the brand being an alternative: Paul Levesque and his staff, I cant give enough credit to. William Regal for the scouting and tireless efforts he endures. He is really good at that and facilitates for guys that three or four years ago wouldnt even have a chance to have a sandwich in the WWE, much less to be signed and have a chance to make an impact. Paul has done a real phenomenal job. I think he has looked at it and built it like an old-school territory in some ways. On being the play-by-play announcer for NJPW on AXS TV: I never retired from the wrestling play-by-play. I never found a place that was overly comfortable for hanging my hat, so wrote that off and I moved on and found other things. Its just that the right opportunity that I felt most comfortable with hadnt come along. In November we started talking to AXS about doing the Friday night New Japan show. I had done Wrestle Kingdom 9, and I have been watching a lot of New Japan Wrestling, I felt like my style would pair up favorably with their in-ring presentation. The travel was very conducive because I have no desire to get back into weekly travel. I tapped on that deal long ago. Going to L.A. eight or 10 times a year, those can be fun trips. The fact were doing three shows a day over a couple day period makes the travel very friendly. I like the fact that Adam Swift and AXS TV are very committed to building this brand much bigger than it is now on their network. Jerry Lawler Explains Why He Is A Heel On WWE SmackDown

- Jerry Lawler addressed why he is now playing a heel announcer on SmackDown via Twitter: https://twitter.com/JerryLawler/status/697163137565351936 Lawler also mentioned that he is supporting Donald Trump for US President. https://twitter.com/JerryLawler/status/697019865840951297 - UK independent wrestler Zack Sabre, Jr. spoke with to Sports Illustrated about his big plans for 2016 and not being ready to join WWE. Here is what he had to say: WWE is fantastic, but you have to go in with the right mindset. If I went there, then I would be aware that I would be working for a company that is predominantly television-minded. You cant be naive when you enter there and expect to be doing what youre doing on a live show in front of a few hundred people who are all real passionate wrestling fans. But their product is great, and its an incredible weekly television show. If you want to succeed, you can if you have the right mindset. I also feel there is so much more to achieve and learn, on a personal level as well, for me in Japan. With my style, I really think I can go anyway. WWE has been interested in signing him in the past. The post Jerry Lawler Explains Why He Is A Heel On WWE SmackDown appeared first on Wrestling-Edge. More...
